CnW File Manager User Manual
Contents
CnW is developing an exciting new free program for file management of disk drives under Windows 10 and 11. It is designed to help manage duplicate files and directories on multiple disk drives and partitions, and networked drives. It will help optimise your PC storage.
The main initial feature will be to discover file duplicates stored in multiple locations. It is always sensible to have copies, but too many copies is a waste of space. Too few copies and there is a danger that data may be lost.
CnW FM shows where there are duplicate directories with identical or similar files. There will be options to merge, or deduplicate the entries. It will also be possible to select the most recent version of files where several versions exist. There will also be an option to view a directory and see how many copies of the files have been found else where.
The scans will cover the main PC/laptop drives, mapped network drives, and also plug in external drives that may have been used as backup drives.
What is a duplicate file?
There are
options
to choose what you want to call a duplicate, and hence choose the relevant option. The page 'Which files to delete' gives some ideas about retaining or deleteing. The program allows for the user to select the files to be tested, for instance just looking at photographs or music files, based on file extensions.
New feature under development
Select a file type, eg .JPG and see if there are dupliucates over multiple drives. This feature will help track down just a single instance of a file type
Disk drives
The drives examined will those part of a PC, but also external (USB) drive and network drives. If there are several USB drives these may be examined one at a time and the results saved for later. The examination runs in parallel so it only takes the time of the slowest drive.
